The Review:

I ended up seeing a small clip of the first episode of Kanon on an a web blog a couple of months back. It wasn’t much more than Yuichi’s first interactions with Ayu, but it was cute and entertaining enough that I wanted to watch more. Time passed and this last month I was reminded about the series. I quickly went and picked it up.

I was in no way disappointed that I did. The first thing that grabs you is the beautiful visuals of the show. You can’t help but admire the backgrounds throughout the series. The characters are also done as wonderful as the backgrounds.

The second thing that hits you is that great intro song. Last Regrets is a beautifully sad song that will get stuck in your head for hours. The songs within the episodes are good without overpowering the scenes. The outro song, while also nice, I felt was a bit too peppy for most of the episodes.

The story is definitely the main attraction to this series. Unfortunately, the series suffers from the same slowness as any series with multiple main characters. Once the first story arc picks up, you’ll be laughing between sobs. While I feel the individual girl's story arcs could have used more time in between, this has been one of the best done series I've seen. Nobody gets forgotten or left behind as the series progresses. Every character is equally important to the story.

If you are a fan of Tenchi Muyo! or Love Hina then you should check Kanon out!
